The Wofford College women’s tennis team defeated Mercer 5-2 in its final regular season match on April 10 at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers secured victories in both doubles and singles matches to close out their home schedule.
This win marks a strong finish for Wofford as they prepare for the upcoming Southern Conference Tournament. The result also highlights the team’s consistent performance, with a winning record in conference play for three consecutive seasons.
Grace Agster and Quinn Bernthal opened doubles play with a decisive 6-1 victory at the number one position. Katie Godfree and Marie Henriksen overcame an early deficit to clinch the doubles point at number three, winning 6-4. Chloe Elliott and Ella Suk fought back from being down but ultimately lost their match at number two.
In singles action, Wofford won four of six matches. Godfree posted a straight-set win (6-2, 6-1) at number three, while Agster added another point with her own straight-set victory (6-2, 6-3) at number one. Suk secured the overall team win by taking her match at number four (7-5, 6-1). Senior Chloe Elliott finished her last home match with a straight-set victory (6-3, 7-5) at number five.
The remaining singles matches were closely contested and went to three sets. Bernthal split tiebreakers before falling in the third set super tiebreaker at position two, while Henriksen also dropped her third set after splitting the first two sets at position six.
“I am so proud of this team,” said head coach Krissy Hall. “We showed up with the right mindset and great energy from the start. I am proud of the way we battled and found a way to get it done on Senior Day.”
After recognizing senior Chloe Elliott following her final home appearance, Wofford looks ahead to opening play in the Southern Conference Tournament on April 16 in Chattanooga.
