The Wofford Terriers baseball team secured an 11-8 victory over Belmont on Friday night at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville, Tennessee. This win marks the first game of a three-game series between the two teams.
Belmont took an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning. Wofford responded by tying the game at 4-4 in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning, Wofford scored five runs to take control of the game and maintained their lead for the remainder of the contest.
Kenny Michaels started on the mound for Wofford, pitching five innings with seven hits and five runs allowed while striking out six batters. Champ Davis finished the final four innings, giving up five hits and three runs, striking out six batters as well. Davis earned his second save of the season.
Andrew Mannelly led Wofford offensively with two runs, two hits—including a solo home run—and four RBI. Cade Collins and Ben Timblin each contributed two runs and one hit.
Wofford’s momentum began in the fourth inning when Logan Tribble doubled to right field. Walks by Andrew Mannelly and Hunter Herndon loaded the bases before Harrison Campi doubled to left field, bringing in two runs to reduce Belmont’s lead to 4-2. Lucas Manning added a sacrifice fly for another run.
Both teams scored once in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Wofford capitalized on a Belmont error along with a single and walk to load the bases. Niko Brini reached on a fielder’s choice that resulted in an error and brought in two runs. Ben Timblin hit a sacrifice fly, followed by Mannelly’s two-RBI single, putting Wofford ahead 9-5.
Belmont attempted a comeback with three runs in the seventh inning but could not close the gap after Mannelly hit his second home run of the season in the eighth inning.
The starting lineup for Wofford included Cade Collins (3B), Niko Brini (CF), Logan Tribble (DH), Ben Timblin (LF), Andrew Mannelly (RF), Hunter Herndon (1B), Harrison Campi (SS), Lucas Manning (C), Brady Gold (2B), and Kenny Michaels (SP).
Brady Gold made his second start of the season at second base and recorded two hits, including a double.
The Terriers’ pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts during this game.
Wofford will play Belmont again tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET before concluding their series on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET; both games are scheduled to stream on ESPN+.
