USC Upstate Softball will travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to play a three-game series against Winthrop starting April 10. Both teams currently share the top spot in the Big South Conference with records of 7-2.
The matchup renews a competitive rivalry between two programs located an hour apart and follows their last meeting in the 2025 Big South Softball Championship final, where USC Upstate secured a 7-4 victory over Winthrop. The outcome of this weekend’s games is expected to influence conference standings and seeding for the regular season title.
For USC Upstate, this marks their first appearance at Terry Field since May 12, 2024, when they won their first Big South Tournament Championship after joining the conference. In recent encounters during the 2025 season, Upstate edged past Winthrop in both regular season and tournament play, including a narrow semifinal win before repeating as tournament champions.
Entering this series, USC Upstate holds an overall record of 24-16 while Winthrop stands at 22-17. Both teams are coming off midweek losses—Upstate fell to #14 Georgia and Winthrop lost to Wofford. The all-time series favors USC Upstate at 18 wins to Winthrop’s 12.
Key players include senior infielder Carson Shaw for USC Upstate, who boasts a .324 batting average with three home runs and is ranked second in the conference for putouts. For Winthrop, freshman outfielder Rebecca Amos leads her team with a .382 batting average and has made significant contributions on offense and defense.
All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+. After this weekend’s series, USC Upstate returns home for games against ETSU on April 14 and Wofford on April 15. The university will also host the upcoming Big South Softball Championship from May 6-9 at Hawkins Field at Cyrill Stadium.
