USC Upstate men’s basketball team will begin a two-game road trip this week, starting with a matchup against Charleston Southern on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The game will be played in Charleston, South Carolina and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the game on Fox Sports Spartanburg 98.3 FM/1400 or through the FoxSports Spartanburg or TuneIn apps.
USC Upstate enters the contest with an overall record of 8-10 and is looking for its first win in Big South Conference play after three losses. Charleston Southern holds an 11-8 record and is 2-2 in conference games.
The historical series between the two teams favors Charleston Southern, which leads 14-7. In their last five meetings, each team has claimed victories, with USC Upstate winning most recently on February 22, 2025.
Statistically, Charleston Southern averages more points per game (84.7) compared to USC Upstate’s 76.4 and also leads in rebounds per game with 44.2 versus Upstate’s 37.2. Both teams have similar field goal percentages, but Charleston Southern allows fewer points from beyond the arc defensively.
Sophomore guard Carmelo Adkins stands out for USC Upstate, averaging 13.1 points and contributing across multiple categories including rebounds and shooting efficiency. According to the team: “Adkins is a player that is willing to be ready to catch and shoot, be a primary ball handler or defend in the post.” He has scored double figures in all but four of his eighteen games this season.
For Charleston Southern, redshirt junior Brycen Blaine leads his team with an average of 17.1 points per game and posted a notable performance earlier this season by scoring 42 points against The Citadel. “Blaine has only had four games in single digits and looks to provide his impact over the Spartans Wednesday night,” according to information provided by the team.
Both teams are coming off recent losses; USC Upstate fell to Winthrop while Charleston Southern was narrowly defeated by High Point.
After facing Charleston Southern, USC Upstate will continue its road trip by traveling to High Point for another conference matchup scheduled for Saturday at 7:00 p.m., also available live on ESPN+.
