Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on January 27.
After a successful year-plus leading Spartanburg County’s tourism development efforts, OneSpartanburg, Inc. Chief Tourism Development Officer Timothy Bush announced his resignation effective Jan. 28, 2022.
Bush, who came to Spartanburg from Louisiana, announced the decision to be closer to his family.
“The decision to leave OneSpartanburg, Inc. was a deeply personal one, driven by my desire to be more present for my mother,” Bush said. “A fortunate opportunity with the Visit Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana CVB will allow me to continue growing in tourism development while being closer to my mother.”
Hired in October 2020, Bush led OneSpartanburg, Inc.’s tourism work during the industry’s recovery from COVID-19 as tracked in Bringing Back the Burg Business Recovery Task Force data.
Bush also led data-driven development efforts to attract meetings, conferences and sporting events to the county, hired a new destination marketing agency, and developed and launched a new campaign to attract leisure travelers to Spartanburg.
“On top of being a great colleague and teammate, Timothy’s time in Spartanburg led to serious, beneficial impacts for our tourism partners and industry,” said OneSpartanburg, Inc. President and CEO Allen Smith. “I think I speak for our team and the Spartanburg community at-large when I wish Timothy and his family nothing but the best.”
A national search for the next Chief Tourism Development Officer, who will lead the county’s tourism development efforts, will begin soon.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working in Spartanburg and will be forever grateful for the way I was welcomed to Spartanburg and the trust the community placed in me. I wish OneSpartanburg, Inc. and Spartanburg as a whole continued success, and I will always be a Spartanburg supporter,” Bush said.
