Beaumont United Methodist Church issued the following announcement on January 27.
The 2022 South Carolina Annual Conference will open June 5 as an all-virtual session to ensure the health and safety of all participants amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“The health and safety of our lay and clergy members and the broader community continue to be our top concern,” said the Rev. Ken Nelson, the conference secretary who also serves as superintendent of the Orangeburg District.
The theme for AC2022 is “Seeking A More Excellent Way – Trusting, Believing and Knowing God is With Us.”
“A year ago, the 2021 Annual Conference adopted Our 4 Priorities to guide us as we live out our call to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,” Resident Bishop L. Jonathan Holston said. “With great anticipation, we look forward to celebrating during the 2022 Annual Conference the innovative ways South Carolina United Methodists have developed leaders, engaged with their communities, connected with and grown disciples, and measured and evaluated their current realities and missional possibilities
“And while we would prefer to be gathering in person, we trust, believe and know that God is with us as we seek a more excellent way – even across the digital landscape. The abundance of mission and ministry endeavors across South Carolina these past two-plus years shows us that connecting virtually still allows us to do more together than we could ever accomplish apart.”
The Committee on the Annual Conference is working out details of the AC2022 schedule, including how many days lay and clergy members will be in session. The conference initially was scheduled to meet in hybrid session, with members having the option to attend in person or virtually.
GNTV Media Ministry – our Annual Conference media partner – will host the virtual gathering and help coordinate participation via Zoom video conferencing and voting on a separate, secure platform. In the spirit of transparency, Annual Conference is traditionally open to the public. AC2022 will be live-streamed so anyone can observe the proceedings online.
The Florence District and Pisgah United Methodist Church in Florence will play host to AC2022 at the Florence Center, where in-person attendance will be limited strictly to those who must be on site to conduct the business of the Annual Conference.
