Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on October 28.
Play. Advocate. Live Well! is thrilled to welcome our newest team members, Clarissa Nesbitt and Lori Boyd. “PAL is honored to have these talented professionals join our team. They bring a wealth of experience in community outreach and public health advocacy,” said Laura Ringo, Executive Director for PAL.
Clarissa Nesbitt joins the PAL team as the Partnership Manager. She will lead the Spartanburg Healthy Schools Initiative phase 2 with Mary Black Foundation by convening community partners who are invested in health and wellness in our schools.
Says Clarissa, “I love this city and our community, and I believe we are full of infinite possibilities. The year 2020 revealed the harsh reality of the health crisis BIPOC are facing due to disparities, and inequities here in this county and all over this country. I joined PAL to be a part of the journey for the betterment of our city, through the healthy schools work and other projects. I am thrilled and honored to be a part of a team doing such great work.”

Lori Boyd joins the PAL team as the Advocacy & Food System Coordinator. Lori's experience as a nurse for over 40 years, the last 10 focused on prevention of disease and promotion of wellness, make her a great fit for this position. Lori will build partnerships to implement projects promoting healthy lifestyles like encouraging water consumption by children through a ReThink Your Drink campaign and piloting a virtual cooking class series that teaches basic cooking skills using affordable FoodShare boxes. She will also assist with the Wholespire Spartanburg County coalition.
Says Lori about working towards a healthier Spartanburg, “As a nurse, I have seen the power of healthy lifestyle to extend our quality of life. I want to help people be as healthy as possible, for as long as possible. The earlier we can lay the foundation for health, the better!”
