City of Spartanburg issued the following announcement on September 17.
Today, we had the distinct honor of celebrating a true Spartanburg living legend and icon, Dr. Kay E. Woodward, with honorary street signs in the Northside neighborhood. Dr. Woodward is the owner and president of the historic J.W. Woodward funeral home which, at 105 years old, is the oldest black owned family business in Spartanburg. Dr. Woodward has dedicated her life to her family, her work, her church, and her community, serving as a true guiding and encouraging light. We are truly grateful for the impact she has made, and for the example she sets for others.
